Matrix Renewables awarded with Latin America Solar Deal of The Year 2021 by Proximo Infra
Miami, March 11th, 2022 – Energy and infrastructure news and analysis service Proximo Infra recognized Matrix Renewables’ Los Llanos project in Colombia with the Latin America Solar Deal of the Year 2021 award. The ceremony took place on March 9th to recognize the best transactions in energy and infrastructure sectors in the region during last year.
Proximo Infra recognized the transaction as a ground-breaking financing, representing the first long-term non-recourse financing for non-conventional renewable energy project in Colombia. The financing of the plants was closed through a solution including senior and subordinated tranches from multilateral and commercial banks, with different tranches in local currency and US dollars.
Located in Puerto Gaitan, in the region of Meta, the Los Llanos portfolio comprises the Bosques Solares de Los Llanos 1, 2 & 3 sites, each with 27 MW of capacity and together the largest operational Solar PV portfolio in Colombia. In addition to providing new, clean electricity to Colombian households and businesses, Matrix Renewables created over 500 jobs, with over 70% of the workers hired locally, through construction and now operations. Moreover, Matrix Renewables committed to execute the reforestation and/or environmental enhancement of at least 168 hectares of land.
