Commercial Operation of Los Llanos I Project in Colombia
Trina Solar and Matrix Renewables will put tomorrow into commercial operation the 27.23 MW Bosques de los Llanos I Solar Park in Meta, Colombia.”
Puerto Gaitán, September 9, 2020
Located in the Puerto Gaitán municipality, the implementation of the project will allow the reduction of 19,450 tons of CO2 per year and will be able to generate an annual energy equivalent to what 23,800 families consume. This is the first of the three plants located in the Llanos that are part of the agreement signed between Trina Solar, global leader of PV solutions , and Matrix Renewables, to build six plants in Colombia for a total of 450 MW in the next two years. Matrix Renewables is a Madridheadquartered renewable energy platform created and backed by global alternative asset manager TPG and its $5 billion impact investing platform The Rise Fund.
Trina Solar, starting at 00:00 hours on Thursday, will inaugurate the Bosques de los Llanos 1 Solar Park that will begin to dump renewable energy on the National Interconnected System (SIN). The installed capacity of the project located in Puerto Gaitán, Meta, is 27.23 MWp. The estimate is that the company will be able to generate an annual energy of 51 GWh, equivalent to what 23,800 families consume. With its entry into operation, 19,450 tons of CO2 will be reduced annually. The project is the first plant, of the three located in Los Llanos. The remaining two plants in the area, with the same capacity, will start operating in November. The solar PV projects are part of an agreement where Matrix Renewables has acquired from Trina Solar six plants in Colombia, for a total capacity of 450 MW, out of a total agreed portfolio of 1 GW, currently operational, under construction or in late stage development nearing ready-to-build status across Colombia, Chile, Spain and Mexico. It should be remembered that in 2019 the UPME awarded Trina Solar projects for 297 MW through the auction mechanism.”
