The Role

At Matrix Renewables we are looking for a highly motivated individual to play a key role in our engineering, technical and operations team.

 

Based in the U.S. and headquartered in Miami, the Engineering Manager must be familiar with all aspects of the development, procurement, construction, and commissioning of renewable energy projects (“projects”). During the development phase, she/he will collaborate with the development of internal and external teams to obtain all the permits, authorizations, and licenses necessary and she/he will be also in charge of negotiation EPC and procurement contracts for the projects. During the construction and commissioning phase, she/he will supervise the main contractors.

Duties

 

  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering activities as needed for photovoltaic and BESS facilities including civil, low voltage electrical, medium voltage electrical, battery storage and structural engineering, and including contracting, schedule management, design set review and implementation with 3rd engineers, EPC, developers and other internal and outside resources and service providers.
  • Manage technical due diligence log for 3rd party construction lenders and consultants
  • Manage technical interface with 3rd party project developer
  • Manage technical aspects of material selections
  • Manage project engineering including 3rd party forecasts and schedules of deliverables.
  • Review EPC contracts, supply agreements, PPAs, interconnection agreements, CUPs (or equivalent) terms and conditions and incorporating the necessary technical requirements into the overall project design specifications and assure conformance to the required technical design for HV, MV and solar array level electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering.
  • Manage technical decisions, RFIs, documents and design with 3rd party EPCs, material and service providers.
  • Lead engineering interface with 3rd party EPC, drive technical diligence and delivery
  • Supporting the development team, drive interface with development and engineering including all needed development engineering documents.
  • Reviewing and approving EPC engineering submittals, controlling their conformance with SOW contracted schedule.
  • Review contracts, requests for proposals and all associated project documents necessary to perform engineering activities
  • Procurement technical management in accordance with electrical design parameters, vendor negotiation, logistics management.
  • Lead and manage engineering support and coordination with the outside EPC during the design review and construction of electrical facilities.
  • Creating regular project engineering status reports and maintaining oversight of project-specific engineering budgets.
  • Responsible for preparation and evaluation of bid packages for various scopes of construction activities, including preparation of Scope of Work and contract exhibits.
  • Periodically controlling quality during construction phase, verifying conformity with approved plans and company engineering and quality best practices.
  • Managing the engineering support required for the submittal of all interconnection applications to the RTO/ISOs and the evaluation of the interconnection studies and negotiation of interconnection agreements.
  • Manage ISO interface and NRI, in conjunction with outside consultants.

Experience

 

  • 7+ years engineering experience on solar photovoltaic utility scale, preferably with strong experience in >50 MW projects.
  • Have strong Project Management experience and experience building solar projects
  • Have broad knowledge of overall engineering and technical components of solar and BESS.
  • In depth knowledge of PV systems equipment, including industry best-practices on equipment sizing, selection, and implementation.
  • Have strong MV and LV electrical background
  • Have deep understanding of scope of work documents and overseeing successful execution for various SOWs, including but not limited to: geotech/topographic surveys, HV / MV/ LV engineering, civil engineering, gen-tie, foundation design, independent engineering diligence, construction interface, etc.
  • Have experience working with project developers, managing permitting and environmental activities and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge with all industry standard modeling software: PVSyst, AutoCAD and other applicable software
