The Role

The Environmental, Health & Safety and Social (EHSS) Analyst at Matrix Renewables (”Company”) will be a key member of this recently established team. The EHSS Analyst will report to the ESG Manager, based in Madrid.

Based at the Madrid headquarters, you will be responsible for:

  • Support the ESG Manager to strengthen, continuously improve and maintain of Matrix Renewables’ Environmental, Health & Safety and Social Management System (EHSSMS).
  • Provide support to Martix Renewables teams on environmental, health and safety and social (EHSS) matters and ensure that projects are developed, built and operated with adequate consideration for EHSS matters.
  • Aggregate and assess EHSS and labour key performance indicators (KPIs) across Matrix Renewables’ portfolio.
  • Transfer and maintain the EHSS project-related information to Matrix Renewables’ corporate database and project monitoring IT system.
  • Support Matrix Renewables with the implementation of the Company’s EHSS activities and bring added value to the Company’s operations.


Key activities and responsibilities

  • Support the ESG Manager to strengthen, continuously improve and maintain of Matrix Renewables’ Environmental, Health and Safety and Social Management System (EHSSMS).
  • Participate in the monitoring of the Company’s projects, contractors and subcontractors EHSS monitoring and their compliance with relevant standards throughout the project construction and operation phases. This will include ongoing engagement with contractors and other parties, documentation review, monitoring of EHSS KPIs and, as necessary, performing site visits (initially, visits will be to projects in Spain).
  • Collect (generally via contractors), aggregate and assess EHSS and labour key performance indicators across Matrix Renewables’ portfolio. 
  • With the ESG Manager’s support and guidance, prepare engaging and clear presentations summarising the EHSS performance of the Company’s projects.
  • Transfer and maintain the EHSS project-related information to Matrix Renewables’ corporate database and project monitoring IT system.
  • Provide support across the business to help identify and apply best practices, procedures and other programs that will assist Matrix in meeting its EHSS goals and objectives.
  • Support project developers in relation to EHSS matters and risk mitigation for new projects by helping undertake due diligence, coordinating the development of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments and defining EHSS risk mitigation strategies (Initial focus on Europe’s  portfolio).
  • Support the investigation, and reporting, of any incidents, accidents and any matters pertaining to non-compliance with the Company’s EHSS requirements.
  • Assist the ESG Manager with external reporting and communications with regards to the Company’s EHSS accomplishments.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience, including experience in assessing and monitoring EHSS risks and opportunities in renewable energy projects (ideally, including solar PV parks).
  • Relevant degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering or related area.
  • Ideally, qualified as Técnico Superior en Prevención de Riesgos Laborales.
  • Robust understanding of Spanish environmental and health and safety laws and regulations, particularly with regards to renewable energy projects.
  • Proved experience on EHSS management at a company and/or project level with experience in tracking and analysing EHSS data/metrics and performance indicators.
  • Ideally, on-the-ground experience in monitoring EHSS performance during project construction.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to conduct business in English and Spanish at the highest standards.
