Engineering Manager  

The Role

Matrix is looking to hire a professional to lead the engineering activities related to a strategic move into Storage technologies, as well as PV and Wind projects in Europe, Latin America and the USA. The candidate will:

  • Advise Matrix on the optimal technological solution for its projects and seek viable and profitable storage opportunities which complement Matrix’s wind and solar projects in target markets
  • Form relationships with battery suppliers, obtaining regular and up to date cost and performance data which can be used in Matrix’s analysis
  • Lead the engineering solutions and control the Technical Advisors and Independent Engineers regarding the optimization of the projects 

The business unit led by the candidate will seek viable and profitable storage opportunities which complement Matrix’s wind and solar projects in target markets.

Key activities and responsibilities:

  • Design coordinator: Engineering lead for the technical solutions for all the Matrix portfolio
  • Support M&A, Business Development and operations activities to maximise company revenues using storage solutions when applicable
  • Provide product and technical support as well as supervision related to the EPC process and the technologies selected
  • Analyse storage solutions for Matrix portfolio from an economic and technical perspective
  • Create a financial model to present the business case for storage in each application, in close collaboration with the M&A team
  • Knowledge of latest storage and hybrid technologies. Cost, efficiency, technical parameters, etc.
  • Understand market regulations around the world for storage and hybrid solutions. Being able of providing with economics inputs to other business units
  • Provide design parameters for storage solutions for decision making
  • Develop relationship with stakeholders related with storage, equipment suppliers, technical consultant, etc.
  • Identify possible storage partners and being able to establish a framework to cooperate
  • Procurement Assistance – Input to procurement progress, including cost and schedule monitoring, shop inspections, expediting, and review of procurement contract warranty provisions

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • The candidate should understand both the technology of battery storage and the economic case for installing them in several markets.  This understanding should include trading strategies to realise the highest return from the batteries, and the candidate will be supported in these activities by the Matrix technical and business development and PPA departments 
  • Experience in designing Solar and Wind projects
  • At least 5 years of experience in storage applications in the electricity industry, and at least 10 years’ experience in the electricity industry 
  • Although a candidate with experience in non-battery storage technologies will be considered, the candidate must have also technical and economic understanding of utility scale batteries and their application in bulk storage, auxiliary services and capacity services
  • Experience applying battery business models across more than one market
